The Short Version
**We hold your letters so we can deliver them. That is the only reason we hold
anything at all.**
We sell no part of it. We share none of it. We never read what you have written
privately.
There is no advertising here and there never will be.
What We Hold
Your email address, so we know where you are and where to send your letters.
Your letters and recordings, exactly as you made them.
Who each letter is for and when it opens — the address you gave and the date
you chose.
What you have paid, kept as a record of the payments themselves. **Your card
number never reaches us.** It goes straight to Stripe, our payment company, who
are built for exactly that.
How the service was used — when a letter was written, when it was delivered.
We keep this so we can prove a letter arrived and find it if it did not.
What We Never Do
We never read your private letters. A person working here cannot open one
from the back office. That is enforced in the machine.
We never sell your details or your words. To anybody. At any price.
We never share them with an advertiser or a data broker.
We never use your letters to train a machine.
We never place a tracker on this site to follow you around the internet.
Who Else Touches Your Words
Only the companies who make the service run, and only for that:
Hostinger where the site and your letters live Stripe who take payments, and who see your card rather than us our email delivery which carries a letter to the person it was written for
Each one is bound to handle your information only as we direct. We add
nobody else without telling you first.
Where It Lives
Your letters sit on servers we control. Some of our suppliers operate
overseas, which is ordinary for any service on the internet, and each is held to
Australian privacy standards.
How Long We Keep It
A delivered letter stays with the person who received it forever. That is
the promise this service is built on.
Letters you have written and not sent stay while your account is active.
Where you close your account, we remove your own details. **Letters you have
already sent stay with the people who have them** — those are theirs now, and
taking them back would break the promise we made when you sent them.
Records of payment are kept for seven years, as Australian tax law requires
of us.
What You Can Ask For, Any Time
A copy of all we hold about you.
A correction, where we have anything wrong.
Your account closed and your own details removed.
An answer about how any of this works, from a person rather than a form.
Every one of these is a control inside your own account. Press it and it
happens, at once, without a person needing to be at a desk. **We would rather you
never had to ask us at all.**
Where a request does need a person, we answer as soon as we can and always
within thirty days, which is what Australian privacy law requires of us.
Keeping It Safe
Every page and every letter travels encrypted between you and us.
Recordings sit outside the public part of the site and answer a stranger
with a refusal.
Your letters are never public — never in a feed, never in a search listing,
never reachable by anybody guessing an address.
We are honest about what is still being built. Where a letter sits waiting
to be delivered it is stored in readable form on our own servers. Sealing it so
that even we could not open it is being built now, and this page will say so the
day it is true. **We would rather tell you where we are than let you believe
better of us than is true.**
Where A Fault Reaches You
Where your information is ever exposed, we will tell you. Quickly, plainly,
with what happened and what it means for you. **We will never let you find out
from somebody else.**
Children
A child can receive a letter here and needs no account to do it. A parent
writing to a child simply hands that address on when the child is ready.
**An account may be held from sixteen, and under eighteen the card belongs to a
parent.** We ask for no information about a child beyond the address a letter is
being sent to.
Asking Us Anything
Write to us and a person answers. The control is on every page.
Where you are ever unhappy with how we have handled your information, the
Office of the Australian Information Commissioner is there for exactly that, and
we will help you reach them rather than stand in the way.
